A Major Acquisition for United The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side. Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently. Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised. Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga. For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals. She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals. Building Steam at Old Trafford The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum. Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals. Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity: The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023. On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.” The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
