PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
